Public Seeks Tax Hike To Save County School

Recipients of Cherokee County discovered that something was wrong with the funding of schools in the county when officials decided to transfer seventeen of the twenty employees of the Cherokee County Career and Technology Center. To add fuel to fire, contracts of remaining three employees were terminated. This effectively meant that the Technology Center would no longer operate in the county.

The residents of the county were unhappy at the decision. The were unhappy that children in the region would have to travel beyond the county for better educational options. Their ire was aroused primarily because the poor economic condition of the schools was never publicized. The closure served as the first notice of trouble in the system.

The state of Alabama permits county commissions to approve an increase in tax as long as it is being utilized for the school system. Increasing the tax for any other reason requires approval from higher authorities. Many persons are raising a pertinent question as to why this option was not exercised to prevent the center from closing down.

While universal support for increase in tax is absent, most individuals are prepared to face yet another financial burden as long as it helps children of the county enjoy better educational and employment chances. In public meetings, students who passed out of the technology centers described how it helped poor students enjoy an education that was beyond their reach due to their poor financial condition. It remains to be seen whether the county officials will bow to public demand.

Education in Cherokee County

Cherokee County has the highest number of educated citizens in America. Its percentage of students who go on to study till college is above 90 percent, some say that it is close to 96.1 percent. The government has passed stiff laws in the country which are applied with higher degree of accuracy in all the towns of Cherokee County. Ghost Town of Cherokee County

Ghost Towns are a part of American history with abandoned towns scattered all over America. These towns are majorly found in Texas and Atlanta. Most of these ghost towns were created after the gold rush of the eighties that brought thousands of people from around the world. These people created hundreds of new buildings and complete cities where they did not exist to use the gold as their lively hood. Museums of Tahlequah

Tahlequah is located in the Cherokee County and is a quintessential American city in all rights. It has an abundance of 80’s architecture that feels like you are in that time and place.  The town is also famous for its outdoor recreation activities which the Tahlequah citizens swear by.

To get in touch with the history of Tahlequah, you will have to visit the Thompson House that is one of the jewels of Tahlequah’s historic past. Although the home was built only in 1882, it has its roots stuck way into the past. The architecture is an example of the Queen Anne Carpenter Gothic architecture which is decorated internally with a delicate woodwork that is Eastlake style. The person on whose name this house is built upon was a very prominent person in the Cherokee history and helped built the Tahlequah city. He was a Doctor by profession who held important positions in the city. He lived in this home till the 1930’s after which this place was restored and named a national monument. Another similar place of historical significance is the Murell Home in Park Hill. This is located outside of Tahlequah, but is as much a part of Tahlequah as the Thompson house. This home was built in 1845 by a Scottish man known as Murell. The home is an example of the high class of lifestyle common around here. The Cherokee Heritage center is another example for the rest of America to follow to preserve their history and culture. The museum is built of stone concrete that were procured from the natives and also has the first learning center for women as part of the Cherokee National Female Seminary. It has some one of a kind Cherokee tribe uniforms that are clothes of some of the greatest Indians of the Cherokee tribe and a few from other Indian tribes too.

Cherokee County is one of the few places in America where the government take special interest in the maintenance of parks and other recreational areas that are important for every town. This bond was created in 2008 by the citizens of Cherokee County through an election ballot. As a part of the move to ensure a greener and healthier future, the Cherokee County officially make it mandatory to provide parks and green space for the present and future generations. The natural areas are also maintained so that nature and humans can live in perfect harmony. Sitting areas, paved walking trails, waste free greenery and camping sites are all part of the Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond. The local dog owners are also allowed in the parks and recreational areas so that they can run and play with their favorite mates without getting into any trouble. The park equipment is made safe for children of all ages so that they do not get into any trouble. Fields for baseball and football are maintained as part of this bond along with a gym center, Aquatics center, skate park and other improvements are all made so that people can spend some time outside of their homes. It has special powers from the government which can be used to safe guard the forest properties from timber merchants and wild life poachers.
