A Day at the W. Kerr Scott Dam & Reservoir

The W. Kerr Scott Dam and Reservoir has a multitude of outdoor entertainment options for you and your family. The entire area of the reservoir is open to the general public for all types of recreational use, and various facilities are set up throughout the area for that purpose. Some areas may require a permit and a fee for various activities, such as camping or using a boat launch. A good portion of them, though, are free and open to the public.

There are a total of seven different boat launches were you can get your boat in the water and spend a day out in the sun. There also number of picnic areas and four different swimming areas established that are accessible by paved roads. Skyline Marina is a full service stop for anything a boater may need, including snacks, fuel and bait. When you visit Bandits Roost Park and Warrior Creek Park, you will have access to showers, a laundry facility and bathrooms.

Other activities for outdoor enthusiasts include fishing, biking, hiking and hunting. If you choose to fish, you may do so anywhere throughout the reservoir except for a limited area around the dam site that is restricted. Hunting is also allowed in various areas that are established throughout the reservoir. A map showing where you can hunt is offered at the Visitor Assistance Center on the property.

The W. Kerr Scott Dam and Reservoir is a fantastic place to get up close and personal with the outdoors. There is even an Environmental Education Center that will give you and your family an enjoyable time learning about conservation and nature. There is also a Native Species Trail that you can walk nearby. From December 1 through March 31 the center is open for appointments only, that opens on April 1 from 1 to 5 PM and then summer hours begin.
